Changing Your Career Path

Changing Your Career PathChange Career_Path

Choosing the wrong career path is actually a surprisingly common problem in today's society. It doesn't matter how many years you have dedicated to your current profession or how much money you've invested, if you don't have a passion for what you do then the chances are that you have been walking down the wrong path. It can be painful to openly admit this - but being honest with yourself is the first step to getting yourself on the right path.

Why Do People Choose the Wrong Career?

It doesn't matter what kind of upbringing you experienced or what school you attended, the vast majority of people end up making an incorrect career choice or desire to change their career for one or a combination of the following factors.

  • Pressure to Choose - We now live in an era where we are expected to know what we want to do for the rest of our lives at an extremely young age. Barely into our teenage years we are being bombarded with career days, advice from teachers and pressure from parents. You are made to feel that there's something wrong with you if you still don't know at this point. The truth is that about 95% of people still don't know what they want to dedicate their lives to at the time of leaving school.

Showcase Your Talent Using Social Media

Showcase Your Talent Using Social MediaSocial Media

By Chris Herbert.

During the last five to ten years social media websites have changed the way in which jobs are offered. In the past the only option was to sift through vacancies for the particular type of post you were interested in and then go through the process of actually making direct contact with the employers to let them know: a) you are interested and, b) the skills you are able to offer them. Now, thanks to social media, the whole process has been turned on its head. Instead of you contacting prospective employers, they are contacting you.

How Employers Use Social Media

Social media provides employers with the kind of information they could only dream of in years gone by - all before they've even met you. They can find out what skills you possess, what experience you have and get a general feel as to whether your ambitions would be well matched to the role they are trying to fill. An incredibly high number of companies have already found and subsequently employed people from social networks. That's right - employers are now making first contact with potential employees!

Making Time Between Jobs Count

Between jobs Make Your Time Count When Between Jobs

You may be one of the more than 17 million people unemployed across the eurozone, but that doesn't mean you can't be productive in other ways that may aid your job search further down the line. Thinking of using a Recruitment Consultant?

Thinking of using a recruitment consultant? Recruitment Consultant

Many of us have used a recruitment consultant (or recruiter as I’ll refer to them here) during our career. Some have used recruiters to help move jobs, others to find a job while out of work. There isn’t a great deal written about how to work with recruiters. Get a good one, and you get expert help finding the best possible job for you at the time, and potentially a career-long relationship with a recruiting professional. But make a mistake and connect with a lesser recruiter and you could find your CV plastered all over your town without your permission. So here are some tips to help you build the very best working relationship with your recruiter and secure that perfect job.

Do your homework.

Do some research on some recruiters in your chosen profession. If you were having a bathroom or kitchen fitted, you wouldn’t pick up the phone and choose the first workman who answered. You would research and find the workman who closest met your specifications. So pick up the phone and do the same with recruiters by speaking with a few of them.
